Neuroplasticity Flashcards
What is neuroplasticity
The ability of the CNS to adapt to changing demands by altering functional and structural properties which result in learning & accuiring skills
Name the 10 principles of neuroplasticity and explain each
- Use it or lose it
- Use it and improve it
- Time matters
- Age matters
- Salience
- Transference
- Interference
- Specificity
- Repetition
- Intensity
Things to keep in mind when applying these principles
Be task specific
Skill acquisition = motor control
Practice design should be carefully considered
Learn through feedback - cues, visually, auditory, kinaesthetic
Give cognitive challenges aove the self selected ability
Rewards and feedback
Use MDT
Be intensive , task specifc, goal based and start ASAP
Why is time matters important
There is a period of spontaneous recovery which there are compensatory movements & cortical reoganization followed by training induced recovery where thereis recruitment and retraining
