  • Injury features: flattening of shoulder, unable to abduct shoulder

Musculocutaneous nerve (C5-7)

A
  • Sensory: lateral aspect of anterior forearm
  • Motor: anterior compartment of upper arm
  • Common MOI: stab wound to axilla
  • Injury features: weak flexion of shoulder and elbow, weak supination

Radial nerve (C5-8)

A
  • Sensory: posterior forearm, lateral dorsal of hand and lateral dorsal 3.5 digits
  • Motor: triceps, posterior compartment of forearm
  • Common MOI: humeral/radial shaft fracture
  • Injury features: wrist drop, weak elbow extension

Median nerve (C6-T1)?

A
  • Sensory: lateral aspect of pal and lateral palmar 3.5 digits
  • Motor: Anterior compartment of forearm (except FCU (ulnar nerve)), thenar muscles, LOAF mucles
  • Common MOI: supracondylar fracture, carpal tuner syndrome, damage to wrist proximal to carpal tunnel
  • Injury features: Thenar rating, hand of benediction when making fist, weak wrist flexion with ulnar deviation

Ulnar nerve (C8 and T1)?

A
  • Sensory: medial aspect of palm and medial 1.5 digits
  • Motor: FCU and muscles of hand (except LOAF muscles)
  • Common MOI: vulnerable to elbow trauma and cubital compression
  • Injury features: wasting of hypothenar eminence, positive froment’s sign, unable to grip a piece of paper, claw hand, weak finger abduction and adduction.

Common peroneal nerve injury (L4-S2)?

A
  • Sensory: skin of lateral leg and dorsal of foot
  • Motor: lateral and anterior compartment of leg, short head biceps femoris
  • Common MOI: fibula fracture, trauma to knee
  • Injury features: foot drop, version flick, loss of lateral leg and dorsal of foot sensation

  • Sensory: posterolateral leg, lateral foot, sole of foot
  • Motor: poster compartment of leg and intrinsic foot muscles
  • Common MOI: trauma or entrapment through narrow space
  • Injury features: loss of plantarflexion, weakened inversion, very rare injury
