Tell me about neuropathic pain.
It is a type of pain caused by problems with the signalling from nerves caused by injury, burn, pressure as opposed to nocioceptive pain associated with actual/potential damage to tissues which can be treated with pain killers.
Treatment of neuropathic pain?
The treatment of neuropathic pain involves:
Treating the underlying cause such as diabetic neuropathy.
Traditional painkillers - not always effective.
Tricylic antidepressants (amitrytyline - effect the way nerve impulses are transmitted)
Epilepsy medication (gabapentin)

Allodynia?
Pain worsened/caused by usually non painful touch/stimuli.
Hyperalgesia?
Severe pain/discomfort from stimuli that would usually cause slight discomfort.
Paraesthesia?
Unpleasant/painful feeling from no stimuli.
