What is Neuropathic (Charcot) Arthropathy?
A
- Noninflammatory joint disease
- Secondary to a neurologic disease

What is the cause of joint destruction in Charcot’s joint?
A
- insensitivity to pain
- loss of proprioception and deep sensation > recurrent trauma > progressive destruction and disorganization of the joint

What causes Charcot’s joint?
A
- Diabetes mellitus (MC, tarsometatarsal joint)
- Syringomyelia (shoulder, elbow, wrist joints)
- Tertiary syphilis (hip, knee and ankle joint)

A
Marked joint destruction. Joint is totally destroyed and disorganized
