What is the cause of joint destruction in Charcot’s joint?

A
  • insensitivity to pain
  • loss of proprioception and deep sensation > recurrent trauma > progressive destruction and disorganization of the joint

What causes Charcot’s joint?

A
  • Diabetes mellitus (MC, tarsometatarsal joint)
  • Syringomyelia (shoulder, elbow, wrist joints)
  • Tertiary syphilis (hip, knee and ankle joint)
