Neurons Flashcards
Dendrites are stimulated by?
Stimulated by environmental changes or the activities of other cells
The cell body contains?
The nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, and other organelles
The axon conducts?
Nerve implies toward synaptic terminal
Terminal boutons affect what?
Other neurons or effector organs (muscle or glands)
The node of Ranvier contains?
Myelin sheath
Name the 4 structural classification of neurons.
- Anaxonic neuron- more than 2 processes. Axon can’t be distinguished from dendrites. Found in CNS in special senses organs
- Bipolar neuron- have 2 processes separated by cell body. Unmyelinated axons found in special senses organs
- Pseudounipolar neuron: one elongated process with cell body on one side of PNS. Sensory information to CNS. Axons myelinated = to secure fast information transmission
- Multipolar neuron- CNS myelinated axon. Normal neuron
Name the 3 functional groups of neurons.
- Sensory neurons- PNS Afferent division. Psuedounipolar neurons
- Motor neurons- CNS effector division. Multipolar neurons
- Interneurons or association neurons- in between 2 neirons. Multipolar neurons
T/F
Sensory neurons are found in the CNS.
False. They are found in the PNS.
Where are motor neurons found?
CNS
Sensory neurons are:
A. Pseudounipolar neurons
B. Multipolar neurons
C. Anaxonic neuron
A. Pseudounipolar neurons
T/F
Motor neurons are bipolar neurons.
False. They are multipolar neurons
Name the 3 classic factions of neuron receptors.
- Exteroceptors
- Proprioceptors
- Interceptors
Define the exteroceptors.
External environment. Touch, temperature, and pressure sensations. Special senses of sight, smell, and hearing
Define proprioceptors.
Internal environment. Position and movement of skeletal muscle and joints. Information carried in somatic sensory neurons
Define interoceptors.
Internal environment. Digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, and reproductive systems. Sensations of deep pressure and pain.
