Q

What is synaptic transmission?

A

When an electrical impulse reaches the end of an axon the terminal buttons release chemicals called neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters travel to the receptors on the dendrites of the receiving neuron.

16
Q

Name types of glial cells

A

Astrocytes, microglia, Oligodendroglia, Shwann cells, satellite cells

17
Q

What arethe function of astrocytes?

A

Provide structural support for neurons by holding them in place.
Regulate blood flow.
Secrete chemicals.
Assist in repair.
Involved in the formation of new synapses.

18
Q

What are the fuction of microglia?

A

Monitor the health of brain tissue.
Identify and destroy foreign substances
Removal of waste and dead neurons.

19
Q

What are the function of oligodendroglia?

A

Forms and maintains the myelin sheath around the axons.
Speed up communication.
Provides insulation.

20
Q

What are the functions of Schwann cell?

A

Form and maintain the myelin sheath aroun the axons

21
Q

What is the function of satellite cells?

A

Provide support for neurons by covering their cell bodies and supplying nutrients.
