Neuronal Conduction Flashcards
How is myelin formed?
By oligodendrocytes in the CNS and Schwann cells in PNS
Node of ranvier
Unmyelinated nodes in between myelin sheaths
What is the function of the myelin sheath?
Reduces capacitance and increases transverse resistance - movement of AP from node to node (SALTATORY CONDUCTION).
Reduces metabolic requirements due to reduced charge interaction
AIS
Axon initial segment
What is the structure of the AIS?
high density of voltage gated potassium and sodium gated ion channels
HODGKIN HUXLEY MODEL
Dynamic clamp
Uses computer simulation to introduce artificial membrane or synaptic conductances into biological neurons and to create hybrid circuits of real and model neurons.
