Neurological System Monitors Flashcards
1
Q
BIS Monitoring
A
bispectral analysis
data measured by EEG (electroencephalogram) are taken through a number of steps to calculate a single number that correlates with depth of anesthesia/hypnosis
2
Q
BIS Values
A
100 = awake, memory intact
65-85 = a measure of sedation
40-65 = recommended for GENERAL anesthesia; deep hynosis, memory function lost
<40 = Near suppression; increasing burst suppression
0 = cortical silence
BIS analysis may reduce patient awareness during anesthesia
3
Q
Brice Questions
A
use these questions on postop visits to alert anesthesia providers of potential awareness events:
- What do you remember before going to sleep?
- What do you remember right when awakening?
- Do you remember anything in between going to sleep and awakening?
- Did you have any dreams while asleep?
