What is the system review
Photophobia, dizziness, lethargy, nausea, vomiting, fits, faints, migraine
What is the first Cranial nerve?
Olfactory
CN1 examination
Have you had any change in smell?
What is the 2nd Cranial nerve?
Optic
CN2 examination
- Inspect the pupils and assess the size, shape, and symmetry
- Visual activity: ask if the patient wears glasses, stand 3 meters away, and get P to read letters, cover each eye.
- Accommodation: ask p to look at the wall, then pen, and then repeat
- Peripheral visual fields, ask P to cover one eye, you cover the other, place your finger at the extreme, and ask P to tell you when they can see it, repeat the other eye.

Trochlear
What is cranial nerve 5?
Trigeminal
What is cranial nerve 6?
Abducens
Cranial nerve exam CN3,4,6
test the 6 muscles around the eyes
- ask P to follow your finger are you draw a H
- cover one eye, shine light into other eye, check reactivity
Cranial nerve 5 examination
Sensation: ask patient to close eyes and touch 3 times on each side of the face with a blunt tool, comparing the left and right side
Motor: ask patient to clench and relax jaw
Motor: ask patient to open their mouth and resist you shutting it
What is the 7th cranial nerve
Facial
7th cranial nerve exam
Ask patient to: puff cheeks, smile, frown, raise eyebrows
Ask patient to shut eyes and resist you trying to open them.
What is the 8th cranial nerve
Vestibularcochlear
