Neuroimaging Techniques Flashcards
1
Q
What is PET
A
Positron Emission Tomography. This scan measures blood flow in the brain. To identify progress of diseases using mental functioning.
2
Q
What is MRI
A
Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Produces computer-enhanced images of brain structure. Used to diagnose a variety of conditions (e.g torn ligaments or tumors). Very useful for examining the spinal cord and brain.
3
Q
What is fMRI
A
Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Shows area of greater brain activity/ functioning by monitoring blood flow and oxygen consumption.
4
Q
What is EEG
A
Electroencephalograph. Records electrical activity in the brain in the form of brain waves. Shows brain activity in real time.
