ASD
Assessment:
Social : abn/lack of comfort seeking behavior, social play, impairment with peer rls, lack of awareness of feelings of others, lack of imitation of others
Communication: abn/impair speech (monotone echolalia), abn nonverbal communication, lack imaginative play
Behavior: persistent preoccupation or attachment to objects, restricted interests, self injurious behaviors, maintain routine, environmental change cause distress, repetitive body movement (rocking, head banging)
Lack eyes contact/emotions
ASD
Intervention
Determine the child’s routines, habits, preferences/ maintain consistency as much ap. Avoid demand on the child
Determine specific ways child communicates and use these methods
Safety precautions as necessary for self injurious behavior
Referrals to special programs
Supports to patients
SAFETY IS PRIORITY
Attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder
Description:
Developmentally inappropriate degrees of inattention, over-activity, impulsivity
Childhood problems: lowered intellectual development, minor physical abn, sleeping disturbances, behavior/emotional disorders, difficult in social rls
Early diagnosis is important
ADHD
Assessment:
Fidgets with hands/ feet or squirms in the seat
Easily distracted with ex/internal stimuli
Difficult follow thru instructions
Poor attention span
Shifts from uncomple act to another
Talks excessively
Interrupts or intruders on others
Engages in physical dangerous activity without consider consequences
ADHD
Intervention:
Provide parents with info, encourage sp groups.
Tx: behavioral therapy, medication, consistent environment, appropriat classroom
Consistent home/envi. Safety measures. Promote self esteem
STIMULANT MEDS. S.E: apetite suppression, wt loss, tics, nervous, insomnia, high bp. Follow up

Not responding to own name
Doesnt show interest by pointing to objects/ people by 14m of age
Doesnt play pretend games by 18m
Avoid eyes contact
Prefers to be alone
Delayed speech/ language skills
Obsessive interests
Upset by minor changes in routines
Repeat words and phrases over and over
Flap hands, rocks, spins in a circle, answers are unrelated to questions
Unusual reactions to sounds, smells/ other sensory experiences
Autism spectrum disorders
Description
Complex, alteration in social interaction/ verbal impairment with repetitive, restricted, stereotype behavioral pattern. Mild to severe (autism, Asperger, Rett syndrome)
18 months to 3 years old
Intellectual/ social behavior deficits, child exhibits peculiar/ bizarre characteristics
