Neuroclinical reasoning Flashcards
What is the WHO ICF and why was it developed?
World Health Organisation
International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health
It was developed to move from the previous model to a more social based model
It shifted the focus from impairment and disability to health
What are the 5 categories of WHO ICF?
Composed of five categories:
- Body functions and structures
- Activities
- Participation
- Environmental factors
- Personal factors
What does the body functions and structure of WHO ICF relate to and give an example
Relates to the impairment caused by a health condition which may or may not impact on activity
E.g Having a stroke may lead to weakness
What does the activities of WHO ICF relate to and give an example
Relates to the activities performed by an individual
E.g This may mean they cannot walk and use a wheelchair
What does the participation of WHO ICF relate to and give an example
Relates to the areas of life in which the individual encounters societal opportunities or barriers
E.g They may no longer be able to return to work
What does the environmental factors of WHO ICF relate to and give an example
Factors in the environment that impact on the ability of a person to carry out activities/participation
E.g The stairs to access the workplace are an environmental factor
What does the personal factors of WHO ICF relate to and give an example
Personal factors that impact on the ability of an individual to carry out activities/participation
E.g The patient has a husband who can help with washing and dressing
How can goals be set in a neuro setting?
Goals should be SMART where possible (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time framed)
Goals can be short, medium or long term
What headings should you use for a problem list?
- Body functions and structures
- Activities
- Participation
