Neuroanatomy Flashcards
What are the 4 major lobes of the brain?
Frontal, Parietal, Temporal, Occipital.
What does the Frontal Lobe control?
Motor function. Problem-solving. Memory. Language. Judgment. Initiation. Impulse control. Social and Sexual behavior. Spontaneity.
What does the Parietal lobe control?
Touch. Pain. Taste. Proporception ( where our body is in space)
What does the Temporal Lobe Control?
Organization of Input
What does the Occipital Lobe control?
Visual Perception
What is the function of Broca’s area?
Converts thoughts of words into a program of muscle movements of the:
- Mouth or throat to either produce speech
- Hand to produce writing
What is the function of Wernicke’s area?
Spoken or read words are processed within Wernicke’s area and turned into meaningful ideas.
Words are picked to convey ideas.
What is the function of the Prefrontal cortex?
Decides reactions to current events based on past experiences and takes into account the rules of society.
What is the function of the primary motor area?
Generates neural impulses that control the execution of movement.
Every body part is represented within the primary motor cortex
What is the function of the primary somatosensory area?
Receives sensory information from the contralateral side of the body via the thalamus
What is the brainstem made up of?
Cerebellum Pons Medulla Oblongata Midbrain Corpus Callosum Hypothalamus Olfactory Bulb
