Neuroanatomy Flashcards
Midbrain
Tectum - located posteriorly
Tegmentum - anteriorly and laterally
Tectum
- Superior to cerebellum
- Superior colliculus - receives input from optic nerves
- Inferior colliculus - receives signals from vestibularcochlear nerves
Tegmentum
- cerebella peduncles
* superior to the midbrain
The pons
- derived from metencephalon
- anterior to cerebellum
- relay station between cerebrum and cerebellum
Frontal lobe
-Primary motor cortex - pre central gyrus
• voluntary muscle movement
- Motor association area
Parietal lobe
recieves stimuli, sensory information and •somatosensory centre
- Primary somatosensory cortex - important in receiving stimuli- post central gyrus
• Sensory associated area
Temporal lobe
Important for hearing
Occipital lobe
seeing
•Vision cortex
• Vision associated area
Corpus callosum
• connects two hemispheres of the brain togather
Falx cerebri
•Fold of dura mater which descends in longitudanal fissure between the cerebral hemisphere
Thalamus
relay station for sensory and motor information
Pineal gland
Secretes melatonin,
Blood supply of pons
- Superior cerebral and AICA are branches of basilar
* PICA branch of vertebral artery
Cerebellum
• superior cerebral
ª AICA
•PICA
Dura mater
• Outermost layer of meninges
- Endosteal layer - lines inner surface of bones of brain
- Meningeal layer - lines endosteal, present in vertebral column
• Middle meningeal artery
