Neuro3 Neurology Circulatory Flashcards
Watershed zones
Between anterior cerebral/middle cerebral, posterior cerebral/middle cerebral arteries. Damage in severe hypotension : upper leg/upper arm weakness, defects in higher-order visual processing.
Regulation of cerebral
perfusion
Normally driven by Pco2, but also by Po2 with
severe hypoxia.
Therapeutic hyperventilation (decreases Pco2) helps decrease ICP in cases of acute cerebral edema (stroke, trauma).
Circle of Willis Anterior cirulation
derived from internal carotid: ACA, lateral striate, MCA.
Circle of Willis Posterior circulation
derived from subclavian: AICA, ASA, basilar, PICA, PCA, vertebral
Dural venous sinuses
Venous sinuses run in the dura mater where its meningeal and periosteal layers separate. Cerebral
veins : 7 venous sinuses : 7 internal jugular vein.
