Neuro Trauma Flashcards
1
Q
Traumatic Brain Injuries
what kinds of injuries are considered neuro trauma?
A
- Traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)
- Traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)
- Epidural hematoma (EDH)
- Subdural hematoma (SDH)
- Cerebral contusion
- Skull fracture
- Traumatic brain injuries
2
Q
Traumatic Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH)
A
- Arterial bleed
- Fast onset of symps
- Symps continue to get worse until treated
3
Q
Traumatic Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH)
A
-
Arterial bleed
> smaller arterials - Fast onset of symps
- Symps continue to get worse until treated
4
Q
Epidural Hematoma (EDH)
A
- Arterial bleed
- Fast onset of symps
-
Symps wax & wane
> have to have craniotomy
5
Q
Subdural Hematoma (SDH)
A
- Venous bleed
- Slow onset of symps
- Symps continue to get worse until treated
6
Q
Cerebral Contusion
A
- Small vessel (bruise)
- Fast onset of symps
- Symps should get better with time
- Commonly seens with coup/countercoup injuries
7
Q
What causes the ICP to incr in a trauma pt
A
Blood
8
Q
What is the difference btwn a subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by a stoke vs trauma
A
Mechanism of actions
force vs. physiologic
9
Q
Management of Neuro Trauma
A
-
Prevent secondary injury
> manage ABCs
> avoid comps of prolonged immobility -
Same as primary & secondary assessment
> ABCDE
