Two point discrimination
A
using the two ends of a paper clip, touch the finger pad in two places simultaneously
alternate irregularly with one point touch
- find the minimal distance that a pt can discriminate two points, should be <5mm on the finger pads

Graphesthesia
A
Trace a number on the palm of the patient’s hand and ask them to identify the number
- if cannot identify → graphanesthesia
- indicates lesion in sensory cortex

Stereognosis
A
place a familiar object into the hand of the patient
- pt should be able to identify the object in < 5 seconds
- astereognosis = inability to recognize object in han

Brudzinski sign
A
flex the patient’s neck, their hips and knees should remain relaxed
if they flex them then it is a positive sign

Kernig Sign
A
flex the patient’s leg at both the hip and the knee while the patient is supine, then slowly extend the the leg and straighten the knee
if patient experiences pain or lifts head in pain → positive Kernig Sign
