Meningitis:
if H. flu or N. meningitis
Ceftriaxone (Rocephin)
2g IV q 12-24 hrs x 7 days

AE: diarrhea, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, platelet dysfunction
CI: neonates with high bilirubin, hepatic/renal impairment, seizure disorders
Meningitis (if S. pneumo with mic >=2 ceph. resistant) add this to Ceftriaxone
Vancomycin (Vancocin)
15 mg/kg IV q8h x 10-14 days
Vancomycin AE
AE: nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, red man syndrome, hypokalemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia
Meningitis Prophylaxis (2)
Rifampin (Rifadin) 600 mg PO qd x 4 days - if H. flu
600 mg PO q12 hrs x 4 – if. N. mening.
Ceftriaxone (Rocephin) – 250 mg IM x 1

AE: agranulocytosis, hepatic toxicity, renal failure, nephrotoxicity
Seizure (benzo)
Lorazepam (Ativan) – 0.1 mg/kg IV; may repeat after 5-10 min

CI: respiratory insufficiency, narrow angle glaucoma
Seizure (Topiramate)
Topiramate (Topamax) – 200-400 mg qd

AE: tremor, wt. GAIN, hepatic failure, thrombocytopenia, N/V, hair loss, ataxia
CI: PREGNANCY, liver disease, bleeding disorder
Migraine Prophylaxis (VPA)
Valproic Acid (Depakote) 500-1500 mg qd (in two div. doses)
Parkinson’s Disease
Carbidopa/Levadopa (Sinimet) – 300-1,000 mg PO qd
