Neuro lab Flashcards
what is included in a focused neuro assessment
pupil assessment (PERRLA), deep tendon reflex, glasco coma scale
if someone has a higher score in the NIHSS what does that mean
the higher the number the worse they are - severe stroke
what is a dermatome
the area of the skin that is supplied by branches of a single sensory nerve root- they give sensory details to the brain
what does grade A mean in the american spinal injury association
no voluntary control of muscle and no perception of temp, pain, pressure or touch
what does grade E mean in the american spinal injury association
no motor or sensory impairments
what does PERRLA stand for
pupils equal, round, reactive to light, and accommodation
what are the steps for a neuro assessment
- VS including pupils and pain
- LOC (appearance, behavior, language)
- intellectual functioning (memory, judgement, insight- self aware of limitations)
- patellar reflex
what does hyperactive patellar reflex mean
upper neuro disfunction - brain or spinal cord damage
what does hypoactive patellar reflex mean
lower spinal cord damage or neuromuscular disfunction
what is a normal patellar reflex number
2 (range is 0-4)
what is the range for eye opening response for glasco coma scale
