SNOOP
S = systemic symptoms, illness, or condition
(fever, wt loss, cancer, pregame’s, immunocompr)
N = neurosymptoms ot abnormal signs (confusion, papilledema)
O = onset is new (ie thunderclap)
O = other, assoc conditional (head trauma, illicit drug use, worse with walsalva maneuvers, precipitated by sex)
P = previous HA history with HA progression or change
Emergency eval for headache includes :
1) sudden, thunderclap headache
2) HA with meningitis/encephalitis
3) HA with global or focal neuro deficit or papilledema
4) HA with orbital or periorbital symptoms
5) HA and possible CO exposure
Peripheral causes of dizziness
- bening paroxysomal positional vertigo
- vestibular neuritis
- meniere disease
- otosclerosis
Central causes of dizziness
- vestibular migrane
- Cerebrovascular disease
- cerebellopontine angle and posterior fossa meningiomas
Other causes of dizziness
- psychiatric
- medication induced
- Cardiovasc/metabolic disease
- orthostatic
Vertigo
definition/cause
-sense of self motion when they are not moving ot a distorted self-motion during normal head movement
cause:
1) asymmetry w/in vestibular system
2) disorder of peripheral labyrinth of its central conex
