Alcohol excess
B12/thiamine deficiency
Charcot-Marie-Tooth (champagne bottle appearance) and carcinomas
Diabetes/drugs (amiodarone, metronidazole, nitrofurantoin)
Every vasculitis

3 ‘M’s
Multiple Sclerosis
Motor neurone disease (intact sensation)
Myelopathy (cord compression, brainstem stroke, cerebral palsy, transverse myelitis, syringomelia)

Causes of unilateral UMN pathology

A

Cerebrum - Stroke and Multiple sclerosis and Space occupying lesion in brain
Spinal cord - disc prolapse, syringomelia, space occupying lesion and infarct/haemorrhage
