Q

Forms of nystagmus and their most common lesion locations:

downbeat nystagmus

upbeat nystagmus

PAN

Ocular bobbing

ocular flutter/opsoclonus

convergence retraction nystagmus

see-saw nystagmus

monocular nystagmus of childhood

A

downbeat nystagmus- cervical-medullary junction (“down low on brainstem”)

upbeat nystagmus - posterior fossa (medulla most common)

PAN - cerebellar Nodulus

Ocular bobbing - pontine-destruction lesions (ruined the pontine while bobbing)

ocular flutter/opsoclonus - pons (pause cells); cerebellum (connections to pons)

convergence retraction nystagmus - pretectum (dorsal midbrain)

see-saw nystagmus - parasellar/diencephalon

monocular nystagmus of childhood - optic nerve/chiasm/hypothalamus
