Neuro Flashcards
Central nervous system (CNS)
Directs mental and basic life processes
Peripheral nervous system (PNS)
Carries info to and from the central nervous system
Spinal cord
Sends info to and from the brain and PNS and controls reflexes
Brain
Directes mental processes and maintains basic life functions
Somatic PNS
Voluntary movement
Visceral PNS
Glands internal organs blood vessels
Somatic afferment fibers
To spinal cord-sensory
Somatic efferent fibers
From spinal cord-motor
Sympathetic nervous system
Arouses body to respond to a threat
Dorsal
Also the structure or pathway in which the message moves. Associated with sensory and afferent. More easily described as body to brain or messages from the body to brain
Ventral
Structure in which the messages moves. Associated with motor and efferent.
PET
Thermal, emits positrons that show activity of brain. 2D, function is the electronically activity of the brain
MRI
Big tune and a double magnet that produces images of tissues of the brain. Magnetic, no radiation. 3D. Structure of Brain
fMRI
Tracks and measures the blood follow to different parts of the brain.3D. Both, structure and function.
CT
Multiple computer and X-ray images from multiple angles that show a 2D version of the structure of brain using radiation
