Neuro Flashcards
cytoskeleton of neurone contains what?
tubulin and dyenine (microtubules for axonal transport of molecules)
neurofilaments (structural support)
resting potential of axonal membrane at what value?
-70mv
what is RMP maintained by?
interaction of electrostatic attraction/repulsion & concentration
na/k ATPase pump (3na out for 2k in)
interior of axon, -ve charge
exterior = positive charge
myelination
meylin is a phospholipid bilayer
sphingomyelin is the main phospholipid
CNS: oligodendrocyte (many neurone)
PNS: schwann cells (one neuron)
synapse
structure that permits a neurone (or nerve cell) to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another cell (neural or otherwise)
electrical synapses
faster conduction than chemical synapses.
gap junction
control unrefined compared to chemical synapses.
chemical synapses
use chemicals to induce effect in the post synaptic neurone
excitatory neurotransmitter
@ post synaptic neuron, when the neurotransmitter binds to the receptor, it causes transmitter-gated ion channels to open. If the potential changes at the axon hillock are +ve and large enough, an AP is triggered
inhibitory neurotransmitter
if the potential changes are -ve the membrane becomes hyper polarised & no action potential is generated
6 neurotransmitters
Glutamate (GLU) GABA Acetylcholine (ACh) Dopamine Noradrenaline & adrenaline Serotonin
