Features of pituitary hormonal hypersecretion
Prolactin (Lactotroph)
- Women: galactorrhea, oligomenorrhea, infertility
- Men: hypogonadism, erectile dysfunction, infertility, galactorrhea (rare)
GH (Somatotroph)
- Acromegaly: include frontal bossing (prominent forehead), macroglossia,
prognathism (i.e. projecting lower jaw), large hand and feet, coarse skin, enlarged
visceral
- Systemic: arthralgia, sleep apnoea, hypertension, cardiomyopathy, osteoporosis,
diabetes

ACTH (Corticotroph)
- Central/ truncal obesity, plethoric moon face, buffalo hump, purple striae/ skin
marks, acne, hirsutism, proximal muscle wasting
- Systemic: hypertension, glucose intolerance, osteoporosis, impotence,
amenorrhea/ oligomenorrhea
FSH/ LH (Gonadotroph)
NOTE: usually non-functioning
- Ovarian hyperstimulation, precocious puberty
TSH (Thyrotroph)
NOTE: usually non-functioning
Hyperthyroidism – nervousness, tremor, palpitation, fine brittle hair, lid lag
