Neural Transmission Flashcards
What responsibility the Myelin Sheath hold?
The Myelin Sheath speeds up velocity of transmission
What colour is myelinated areas of the brain
White
What colour represents unmyelinated areas of the brain
Grey
What is the responsibility of a dendrite
Dendrite receives information from many different neurons
What is the responsibility of an axon terminal
Transmits information to other neurons (very few)
What does the fluid inside and outside of the membrane contain
Ions(charged particles)
Does action potential occur everywhere?
No, It only occurs in certain areas
When is the membrane considered to be at rest?
When nothing is occurring
What does being at rest mean for the membrane?
There are more negative charges on the inside of the axon than the outside of the axon.So the inside is more negative.
What is it called when the inside is more negative than the outside of the membrane?
Resting potential
What does polarisation mean?
Polarisation is when the inside of the membrane is more negatively charged
Is most of the membrane often polarised?
Yes-even when action potential occurs
What happens to the ions when action potential occurs?
The positive and negative ions swap places and become depolarised
What does depolarised mean?
When voltage is reversed and the positive and negative ions swap places.
What is action potential?
When the ions swap places in the membrane
