neural induction Flashcards
neural induction
assigning neural potential to a region of early embryo
gastrula
stage in embryo development which three germ layers are established after involution of blastula cells
involution
sheet of cell moves into the interior of the embryo by rolling in under itself
neuroectoderm
dorsal side
gives rise to whole NS
involution (what parts involute?)
IMZ - involuting marginal zone & DLB - dorsal lip of blastopore
neurula
end of gastrulation when neural tube is forming
notochord
rod like structure lies beneath future CNS
from dorsal mesoderm
neuroectoderm -> neural plate
broadening at anterior end forms the neural plate
neural plate features (brain vs sc)
brain - broader
sc - narrower
how does neural induction happen?
interaction between IMZ and ectoderm
dissociated neurons
nerual fate
therefore default fate
epidermalising signal
when cells are close together, they give off epidermalising signal to one another -> epidermis fate
cdna
copy of a mrna strand = cdna
used to investigate what molecules induce neural tissue
chick - neural induction
Neural induction occurs PRIOR to gastrulation (before noggin, chordin, or follistatin)
FGF3 in chicks
FGF3 mRNA expressed in pregastrula stage in region to be neuroectoderm
If inhibited: epidermal fate
FGF blocks BMP -> neural fate
