Q

explain why protocols are important in a network

A

protocols are important on a network ,allowing them to communicate by ensuring all devices follow the same rules so they see signals in the same way

Q

explain 2 advantages of using packet switching instead of circuit switching to send a message between 2 computers on a network

A

one advantage of using packet switching is multiple routes can be used between devices therefore if one breaks down then anouther can be used this makes transmission easier

a second advantage of packet switching is it’s efficent use of network as each channel is only used for a short perod of time ,if there’s an error only a small part of the data is affected this can be retransmitted easily

Q

InterMovie is a service that allows users to stream movies over the Internet.

When users have played a movie it remains stored in a cache on the user’s computer. This means that someone
wanting to access the same film in future can stream it from other users rather than directly from the company’s
servers.

i. state what this network model is called
ii. explain why the company may have opted for this model

A

i. peer to peer

ii. peer to peer means there isn’t a reliance on the companys server and it’s connection to the server

Q

Explain what is meant by packet switching.

A

packet switching is a method of communication in which data is using packets across a network.packets are sent across the most efficent route this means they may arrive in a different order they were sent .Once packets arive
they are reordered
