What is a LAN (Local Area Network?)
A
- Uses wired and wireless connectivity within a small area or building. Can be used to share devices e.g one printer between 3 PC’s as well as connect to the internet

What is a WAN (Wide Area Network?)
A
- Connectivity around the globe. Users can connect to other countries

What is a VPN (Virtual Private Network?)
A
- Uses the internet to securely connect remote digital devices. On a VPN, remote workers can access all your office systems and applications

What is Bandwidth?
A
- Bandwidth refers to the maximum amount of data that can be transmitted via an internet provider over a certain period of time

What is Latency?
A
- The time delay for a data packet to travel to its destination
- An implication of high latency is on video calls - loss of synchronisation between audio and visual

What are Codecs?
A
- Codecs encode and decode data, sometimes, but not always, resulting in compression
- Transmitting and storing encoded data is faster and takes up less space
