Networks Flashcards
Explain LAN
A local area network (LAN) is a collection of devices connected together in one physical location, such as a building, office, or home. A LAN can be small or large, ranging from a home network with one user to an enterprise network with thousands of users and devices
Explain PAN
A personal area network (PAN) is a small network that interconnects technology devices within a limited range of just a few meters. This is often used in bluetooth
explain WAN
A wide area network (WAN) is a connected collection of telecommunication networks distributed across a large geographic area that allows the component networks to exchange data within the group.
explain the Advantages and Disadvantages of bus topology
Advantages
It is easy to connect a device to the network.
It is cheaper than other network options.
The failure of one station does not affect the rest of the network.
No hubs or switches are required.
Extensions can be made to the network.
Multiple nodes can be installed without difficulty.
Multiple peripherals can be supported through bus topology.
Disadvantages
Additional devices slow the network down.
Size limitations are always present.
Security options are limited with bus topology.
Maintenance costs are higher.
A break in the backbone can cause an entire network to collapse.
Bus termination issues can lead to network issues.
