Define Personal Area Network (PAN)
A personal area network is a network setup between devices that are very close to each other.
Usually less than ten meters apart

Define Local Area Network (LAN)
A Local Area Network (LAN) connects devices together over a small area, such as a building or site. Devices are referred to as Nodes.
A LAN may contain as fews as two nodes (home office) to hundreds of nodes (Large office).
How are WAP’s usually connected?
Using ethernet cable which is connected to the switch, which is connected to the router
Define a Wireless LAN (WLAN)
Where devices are connected using a Wireless Access Point (WAP)
WAP requires both a connection and a power cable.
The WAP is connected to the switch, it acts as a node, however provides wireless wifi connection.
Define a Wide Area Network (WAN)
A WAN spans across different regions or countries. WAN’s connect different LAN’s together.
Define Virtual Private Network (VPN)
VPN is a method of connecting devices or networks to other networks via the Internet
A VPN allows an employee with Internet access to connect to an office LAN via the Internet
