Networks Flashcards
What is the TCP/IP model?
Defines how devices should transmit data between them and enables communication over networks and large distances.
What are the different network topologies used?
-Bus
-Mesh
-Partial Mesh
-Star
What are the advantages/disadvantages of network topologies?
-Bus: Cheaper/Bus topology is not great for large networks.
-Mesh: Faults can be identified easily/Expensive
-Partial Mesh: Scalability/Difficult Install
-Star: It is very reliable/Expensive to install as this type of network uses the most cable.
What is Ethernet?
Ethernet is a way of connecting computers and other network devices in a physical space.
What is Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that uses radio waves to provide wireless high-speed Internet access.
What is bandwidth?
The maximum amount of data transmitted over an internet connection in a given amount of time.
What is network hardware? List at least 4 examples.
Electronic devices that are required for communication and interaction between devices on a computer network.
-Routers
-Hubs
-Switches
-Bridges
