Networks Flashcards

1
Q

Advantages of networks

A

Allows sharing of recourses (disk storage, scanners, printers)
Allows sharing of data held on disk drives
Easier to backup data held on central server than on many individual machines
Allows for easy communication (email, chat rooms, forums, VOIP)
Allows connection of different types of computers

Q

Disadvantages of networks

A
  • User can become dependent on network
  • If network stops operating then many not be possible to access various resources
  • Efficiency of network can be v dependent on network manager
  • Difficult to make network of computers secure for hackers + outside threats
  • As traffic increases on network - performances can degrade

Q

How big are packets!

A

relatively small - ensure indivudla packets dont take too long + exccesive time to prevent other packets from moving
but not too small - additinal data added makes data transfer inefficent ….
