Q

Would modems and routers devices be found in big corporate environments? If not, what would be used? Why?

A

Yes. However, switches and patch panels would be used to better organise the large number of cables running through it to provide network connectivity. These would very rarely be used in a home network.

Q

Is a phone call an example of data networking? If so, explain your answer. Give a step-by-step guide as to what would happen.

A

Yes:

1) When Person A speaks into the membrane of the microphone of the phone, it vibrates it.

2) The membrane converts the voice into an electrical signal, and then into a wireless signal.

3) The signal is then sent up to the nearest cell tower to be converted again to travel across the wires on the telephone poles.

4) The cell tower nearest to Person B’s phone will convert it to a wireless signal.

5) That wireless signal will again convert into electrical pulses that vibrate the membrane of Person B’s phone speaker.

6) That will vibrate the air, allowing Person B to hear Person A’s voice through the phome.
