What is the SMTP server used for?
Sending emails
What is the POP3 server used for?
Retrieving emails
What is the IMAP server used for?
Stores emails on a central server, but lets the user view the email as if it is located on their device
What is the DNS?
Domain Name System
- A way that we can store all the records for the devices in a given network
What is DHCP?
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.
- Allows us to push out configuration settings and distribute IP addresses to various devices joining the network
What is a File Server?
A way for a user of a network to store files off of their machine.
SMB and NFS
What is a Syslog?
- Generates system logs and stores them
- Typically in Unix or Linux systems
What are some internet appliances?
- UTM appliance (Unified Threat Management)
- Load Balancers: Spreads workload across multiple servers
- Proxy Server: Filters activity submitted by the user
What is SCADA?
- Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems
- Collection of components, typically isolated networks such as industrial control systems

What is QoS?
Quality of Service.
Allows you to prioritize different types of traffic.
What is a MAC Address?
The Media Access Control (MAC) address is a binary number used to identify computer network adapters.
