Network types and characteristics OSI model Flashcards

1
Q

transition modulation

A

transition modulation. One way to electrically or optically represent a binary 1 or 0 is to use the transition between a voltage level.no voltage means 0 and +5 or -5 represents 1.also works with fiber no light is 0 and light is 1

Q

OSI

A

(Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model) Commonly referred to as the OSI model or the OSI stack . This seven-layer model categorizes various network technologies. It is a way to organize network components.

Q

asynchronous

A

uses start and stop bits to indicate when transmision occu from the sender to the receiver,of or requiring a form of computer control timing protocol in which a specific operation begins upon receipt of an indication (signal) that the preceding operation has been completed.

Q

synchronous

A

uses a reference clock to coordinate the transmissions by both sender and receiver, happening, existing, or arising at precisely the same time,of, used in, or being digital communication (as between computers) in which a common timing signal is established that dictates when individual bits can be transmitted and which allows for very high rates of data transfer
