Network Hardware Flashcards
Network Tap
A hardware tool used to monitor network traffic by intercepting data flowing between devices.
Patch panels
A hardware used to connect and manage inbound and outbound Cable in a central area.
Loopback Plug
A hardware device to test the functionality and connectivity of Ethernet ports by creating a loop in the network connection.
Load balancer
Distribute network traffic across multiple servers to optimize performance
Bridge
a networking device that connects multiple networks together
Spam gateway
The purpose is to block malicious emails from accessing the network.
ONT (Optical Network Terminal)
Terminates the fiber optic connection. It converts the optical signal from the fiber optic line into the electrical signal, which can then be routed or other networking devices.
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
A layer 2 protocol that prevents loops in switch networks
Cat 5
Cat cable that have a transmission rate up to 100 Mbps over a max distance of 100 meters
Cat 5e
Cat cables that have a transmission rate up to 1 Gbps over a max distance of 100 meters
Cat 6
Cat cable that have a transmission rate up to 10 Gbps over a max distance of 55 meters
Cat 6a
Cat cable that have a transmission rate up to 10 Gbps over a max distance of 100 meters
Multimode Fiber Optic
A type of optical fiber cable designed for shorter distances and larger core diameters, allowing multiple light rays to travel simultaneously for data transmission.
Single mode Fiber Optic
Optical fiber cables that are specifically engineered for transmitting data over long distances. They have a smaller core diameter, which allows a single light ray to travel through them. This design enables them to offer higher bandwidth and longer reach compared to other types of cables.
