Network Design Flashcards
What are the four characteristics of a networks architecture?
- Fault Tolerance
- Scalability
- Quality of Service (QoS)
- Security
What is a fault tolerant network?
A fault tolerant network can continue operations without interruptions when one or more components of the network fail.
What is redundancy in a network?
Redundancy provides multiple paths for packets to travel on when the original path fails.
What is a scalable network?
A scalable network is one that expands to quickly support new users and applications.
What causes congestion in a network?
When the demand for bandwidth exceeds the amount available.
How is bandwidth measured?
In bits per second (bps).
What is the priority of QoS?
To prioritize time-sensitive traffic.
What are the two types of network security concerns?
Network infastructure security and information security.
How do you ensure infastructure security?
Prevent physical access and require a username and password.
How do you ensure information security?
Firewalls, encryption, and other security software.
What are the three primary requirements for information security on a network? (CIA)
- Confidentiality
- Integrity
- Availability
What is data confidentiality?
Data confidentiality means that only the intended and authorized recipients can access and read the data
What is data integrity?
Data integrity assures users that the information has not been altered in transmission, from origin to destination.
What is data availability?
Data availability assures users of timely and reliable access to data services for authorized users.
What are the two parts of an IP address?
Network portion and the host portion
