Network components Flashcards
What is a host?
Every computer on a network is called a host or end device.
What is a server?
They are computers that provide information to end devices.
How does a server do that?
Through email servers, web servers and file servers.
What are clients?
They are computers that send requests to servers to retrieve information.
How does a client do this?
Through a web page from a web server. Also through email from an email server.
How does a email function in host roles?
Email server runs email server software.Clients uses client software to access email.
How does web function in host roles?
The web server runs web server software. Clients use browser software to access web pages.
How does file function in host roles?
File server stores corporate and user files. The client devices access these files.
Is it possible to have a device be a client and a server?
Yes, it’s possible through Peer-to-Peer Network.
What is recommend for Peer-to-Peer?
To only be used for very small networks.
What are the advantages of Peer-to-Peer Network?
Firstly, it’s easy to set up.
It’s less complex
It usually is lower in cost.
Lastly, it’s used for simple tasks ( transferring files and sharing printers)
What are the disadvantages of Peer-to-Peer Network?
There is no centralised administration- so no active directory.
It’s not secure
it’s not scalable
it has slower performances
What is an end device?
An end device is where a message originates from or where it’s received.
How does an end device work?
Data originates with an end device, so it flows through the network and arrives at an end device.
What is intermediary network devices?
An intermediary device is an end device so it manages the data that flows through a network it basically interconnects.
