Q

What are the advantages of network?

A
  • We can easily share data, share resources - printers and internet connections so fewer printers are needed,
  • we can also communicate better - using emails, messages,
  • we can also access our data from any device/ computer - google drive,
  • data can be backed up to separate computer for security,
  • all computers can access the internet through one connection

Q

What are the disadvantages of network?

A
  • If a part of the network cable is broken, it can cause the network to break down
  • viruses can spread easily
  • computer is vulnerable to hackers
  • it costs more for extra components
  • printing queues can be long

Q

What are some important notes of LAN?

A
  • LAN is Local Area Network
  • They are located in a small building, or a single room
  • They are connected using cables or wires, fibre optic cables
  • They can be referred as intranet as they are private and can only be accessed by people in the room or in building.
  • LAN consist of several computers connected to each other.

Q

What are the advantages of LAN?

A
  • files can be shared easily
  • files and data can be accessed easily from any computer
  • LAN can be monitored easily by network manager
  • Data sent around LAN very fast because it uses a cable to transfer from one device to another

Q

What are some important notes of WLAN?

A
  • They are similar to LAN but they connect computers together wirelessly instead of using cables/wires.
  • They are build by attaching a device called the access point (AP).
  • WLAN can be in the form of intranet or internet
  • Wireless enabled electronic devices communicate with the AP using a wireless network adapters built in the devices.

14
Q

How does wifi work?

A
  • Wifi works with no physical wired connection between sender and receiver by using radio frequency (RF technology)
  • It is also the cornerstone of any wireless network that is and access point (AP) or hotspot.

Q

Advantages of WLAN Network

A
  • physically safer than LAN as no cable is required to trip over (decrease safety risk)
  • cheaper to set up because you don’t have to buy cable
  • easier to add more computer/ other network to other devices.
  • devices such as printer and scanner can be shared easily
  • computers and devices can be used anywhere in the building.

Q

Disadvantages of WLAN Network

A
  • Wireless can be interfered from other electrical equipment.
  • Data transferred will be much slower than LAN
  • WLAN can be useless for use in a large building as they have a limited signal range
  • Security can be at risk as anyone with wireless enabled devices can try to access the network.

Q

What is WAN?

A
  • WAN is Wide Area Network made up of computers and devices that are connected over a large geographical area.
(Ex : Internet and Network of ATM used in Banks)
  • WAN is created by connecting lots of LAN and individual computer together.
  • Every time you switch on Wi-fi connection or access mobile data, you are connecting your device or computer to WAN.

Q

What is Intranet?

A
  • Intranet is like a private internet where they only exist in within one building or company and user need to use password and login ID to join.
24
Q

What is Intranet used for?

A
  • Viewing web pages
  • Sending emails
  • sharing files and information
25
Q

What is Internet?

A
  • Internet is a huge collection of computers and networks that is joined together.
  • if devices are connected to internet, the are allowed to access and share data from other computers that are also connected.
25
Q

How do you connect to Intranet?

A
  • Login ID and password
  • have to physically be in the building where the intranet exist.
25
Q

What is Internet used for?

A
  • browsing web pages using - WWW-
  • sending and receiving emails
  • video conferencing
  • voice call
  • social media
26
Q

How to access the Internet?

A
  • A computer or a device (such as tablet or phone)
  • a router or modem
  • an ISP
27
Q

How to connect to be connected?
(Other 2 ways)

A
  • Cables/Wires
  • Wireless (Wifi)
28
Q

What are some differences between Internet and Intranet?

A
  • Internet means International Network, Intranet means Internal Restricted Access network
  • Using Intranet, it is possible to block certain websites but doing it in Internet will be harder.
  • Intranet requires password and Login ID to be accessed by the computer, while internet can be accessed anywhere.
  • Intranet is protected with a firewall to prevent hackers, virus, and network threat. Internet will be harder as it is open in international scale
  • Internet is public access but intranet tend to be private access.
29
Q

What is Bluetooth?

A
  • is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short-wavelength radio transmissions) from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area networks (WPANs) w/ high level of security
  • WPAN = Wireless Personal Area Network
29
Q

What are the two types of IP Address?

A
  1. Public IP - (Internet)
  2. Private IP - (Intranet)
29
Q

What is Private IP Address?

A
  • is an address that is given to any device connected to LAN network by router
30
Q

~!NOTES!~

A
  • All computer and devices connected to the network (Internet and Intranet) are assigned a unique number called IP (Internet Protocol)
31
Q

What is Public IP Address?

A
  • is an address given by ISP/ Internet Service Provider
(One house can only have 1 Public )
31
Q

What is an ISP?

A
  • ISP (Internet Service Provider) is a company that provides connection to the internet.
  • Ex : firstmedia, indihome
32
Q

~!NOTES!~

A

-Internet Access-
Internet is a huge collection of computers and networks that have been joined together.
It is a network that consist of millions of private, public, academic, business and government network, of local to global scope.

33
Q

How to connect to the internet?

A

A computer device -> A router or modem -> An ISP

33

  • A router is a network device that connects together two or more networks.
35
Q

What is a common a use of router?

A
  • to join a home or business network LAN to the internet (WAN)
36
Q

What is a modem/ Modulator Demodulator?

A
  • a computer that understands and process digital data and for telephone system is analogue.
  • So modem converts a computer’s digital signals (modulate) to analogue signals for transmission over a telephone line and vice versa.
    ~!NOTE!~
    > telephone into digital signal is demodulate.
    > computer digital signals to analogue is modulate
37

38
Q

What are some advantages of using cables?

A
  • Can transfer data faster than wireless
  • Data transferred is much more secure than wireless
38
Q

Network Interface Card (NIC)

A
  • Used to connect individual computers to a network.
  • Has parts which allow network cables to be plugged in and connect to the network.
39
Q

What are two types of NIC?

A
  1. Wired NIC
  2. Wireless NIC
40
Q

What are two general internet terms?

A
  1. Browser
