Network ++++ Flashcards
How many bits is an FCS and what is it used for
An FCS is 4 bits long and it’s used to correct if all the data is intact using Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC)
Describe a frame
A frame is basically a container for a chunk of data moving across the network and it’s 1500 bytes long
What’s the command to show your MAC address for windows
Ipconfig /all
Describe what a hub would do if a frame was received
A hub is essentially a repeater, it would receive the frame then send it to all network devices till the device with the designated MAC address would process the frame. All other devices would drop it.
What is Logical Link Control?
The aspect of the NIC talking to the OS using drivers
What does padding do in an Ethernet Frame?
An Ethernet Frame can not be lower than 64 bytes in size, if it is padding will make it up
What is a preamble?
A preamble is 7 bytes long and they give the NIC time to realize a frame is coming and where it starts.
What does the Type field do?
Helps the receiving computer know if it’s a IPv4 or IPv6
Why is coaxial primary used for modems ISP?
Coaxial provide protection against EMI, low signal lost, and travel long distances. Most common is the F-type connector
Where does (did) a hub send data?
To all the systems connected to the hub
What uniquely identifies every NIC?
Media access control address
What Windows utility do you use to find the MAC address for a system?
ipconfig /all
A MAC address is known as ___ a(n)
address.
Physical
A NIC sends data in discrete chunks called ___
Frames
The MAC address of which of the following begins a frame?
Receiving system
With 100BASE-T, what is the maximum distance between the switch and the node?
100 meters
What type of cable and connector does 100BASE-FX use?
Multimode fiber with ST or SC connectors
Which of the following connector would you typically find with a 40 GbE installation?
QSFP +
What standard does IEEE 802.3ab describe?
1000BASE-T
What device directs packets based on MAC addresses?
Switch
