Nervous System Flashcards
1
Q
How are dendrons and axons adapted?
A
They’re long to allow fast neurotransmission over long distances.
2
Q
Dendrites
A
Receive impulses from receptor cells.
3
Q
Axon terminals
A
Pass impulses to other neurones.
4
Q
Myelin Sheath
A
Electrically insulates neurone from neighbouring neurones stopping the signal losing energy. Also makes an impulse jump along the cell between the gaps in the myelin so speeds up neurotransmission.
5
Q
Central nervous system (CNS)
A
Brain and spinal cord.
6
Q
Synapse
A
Where one neurone meets another. Slow down neurotransmission and ensure impulses only travel in one direction.
