What does the somatic system do?

A
  • send sensory info to the brain and spinal cord. These include:
    • skin, muscle, bones and joints (touch, pressure, temp and pain)
  • have motor fibres that object to the skeletal muscles

A

Regulates bodily functions. Including:

  • breathing
  • heart rate
  • blood pressure
  • kidney function
  • digestion

What are the two systems in the autonomic nervous system? And what do they do?

A

Sympathetic
- increases activity to prepare body for physical exertion, stressful anticipation or emergencies (fight or flight)

Parasympathetic nervous systems

  • normalises or reverses the effect of the sympathetic system
  • acts to conserve energy and maintain resting bodily functions

What is the endocrine system? And what are its components?

A

The endocrine system is a bunch of glands scattered around the body that secrets hormones

It consists of:

  • thyroid
  • thymus
  • adrenal glands
  • gonads
