Nervous System Flashcards
Central Nervous System
“Highway” of Brain to Spinal Cord.
Transfers info. from rest of body to brain.
((central park has a highway that goes from brain to spinal cord))
Reflex
Automatic response to sensory stimulus
Sensory Neuron
Responsible for bringing information from sensory receptors (like the nerves in your hand) to the central nervous system (spinal cord and brain)
Relates to 6 senses. And gives each sense Info to move.
Motor Neuron
Neurons that carry information from the central nervous system to the muscles to make these movements.
(info to be able to ride motor cycle)
Interneuron
Receive input from about 2,000-10,000 motor neurons and transmits its output to a similar number of sensory neurons.
Peripheral Nervous System
Controls all voluntary and involuntary muscles and glands. Contains all your nerves and nerve bundles excluding the brain and spinal cord.
Somatic
controls voluntary muscle movements
Autonomic
Connects the brain and spinal cord to involuntary muscles and glands.
Sympathetic
onilizes body to respond to stress ((fight or flight))
Parasympathetic
Slowing body down after stressful response ((CALMING DOWN))
