nervous system Flashcards
What are the two main parts of the central nervous system?
brain
spinal cord
the peripheral nervous system?
somatic nervous system
autonomic nervous system
what is somatic nervous system?
The somatic nervous system is the part of the nervous system that helps you move your body when you want to, like when you walk, jump, or grab something.
automatic nervous system?
The autonomic nervous system controls things in your body that happen automatically, like your heartbeat, breathing, and digestion. It also sends messages to the brain about what’s happening inside your body.
Sympathetic nervous system?
The sympathetic nervous system makes most of your organs, muscles, and glands more active when you’re stressed, in danger, or doing something intense. It helps your body react quickly by increasing energy and alertness
Parasympathetic nervous system
keeps your body balanced and working smoothly by helping your organs, muscles, and glands function normally. It helps you relax and recover after stress
Enteric nervous system
is a network of nerves in your gut that controls digestion and keeps your digestive system working properly.
