What is Cell body?
Contains nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum
What is Dendrons?
Small extensions of cell body
What is Axon?
Single long fibre carrying impulse away from cell body
What are Schwann Cells?
Surround Axon to protect it and provide electrical insulation.
Phagocytosis and nerve regeneration
What is Oligodendrocytes?
Produce Myelin in the CNS
What is Myelin Sheath?
Covering around Axon, made up of membranes of Schwann cells and Oligodendrocytes
What is Nodes of Ranvier?
Gaps between adjacent Schwann Cells where there is no myelin sheath
What is Reflex Arc?
Involuntary Response to a stimulus
What is the pathway of the Reflex Arc?
Stimulus
Receptor
Sensory, Relay, Motor
Effector
Response
What is a Sensory Neurone?
Transmit electrical impulses from PNS to relay neurone or motor neurone
What is Motor Neurone?
Transmit electrical impulses from Sensory or Relay to effectors
