Nervous and Hormonal Control of Vasculature Flashcards
Give 5 examples of paracrine/autoregulation agents that influence vascular control.
Nitric oxide, prostaglandins, endothelin, K+, H+.
From what region of the spinal cord do sympathetic preganglionic fibres arise?
Intermediolateral region (IML) of the thoracolumbar spinal cord.
The RVLM receives info from what parts of the brain?
Hypothalamus, CVLM.
Explain the role of RVLM-sympathetic pathways that innervate the gut and skin during exercise.
Gut - increased sympathetic nerve stimulation, causing vasoconstriction and therefore reduced blood flow.
Skin - reduced sympathetic nerve stimulation, causing vasodilation and therefore increased blood flow. This increases heat loss by radiation.
Name the 3 types of vasodilator nerves.
Parasympathetic, sympathetic, nociceptive C fibres.
