Q

Explain the role of RVLM-sympathetic pathways that innervate the gut and skin during exercise.

A

Gut - increased sympathetic nerve stimulation, causing vasoconstriction and therefore reduced blood flow.

Skin - reduced sympathetic nerve stimulation, causing vasodilation and therefore increased blood flow. This increases heat loss by radiation.
