Nerve Types Flashcards
GSA
General (same as spinal cord)
Somatic (body-related)
Affluent (sensory)
exteroceptors ( the sensory nerve end receptors that respond to external stimuli; located in the skin, oral cavity, eyes, ears, and nose)
and
proprioceptors ( sensory receptors in muscles, joint capsules and surrounding tissues, that signal information to the central nervous system about position and movement of body parts, for example the angle at a joint or the length of a muscle)
SSA
Special
Somatic (body-related)
Affluent (sensory)
Special senses in eye and ear (vision; hearing and equilibrium,)
GVA
General
Visceral
Affluent
Sensory from viscera (e.g. gut)
These are the same as in spinal nerves
SVA
Special
Visceral
Affluent
Olfaction (smell) and taste
GVE
General
Somatic (body)
Effluent (motor)
Autonomic nervous system (innervates cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and glands) These are the same as in spinal nerves)
GSE
Skeletal (Somatic) muscles. These are the same as in spinal nerves
SVE
Special
Visceral
Effluent (motor)
Skeletal muscle which develops from the pharyngeal (branchial) arches (homologous to GSE)
