Nerve Cells Flashcards
Neuro glial cells
Cells that help neurons do their jobs
dendrits
The antenna Ray. Thin processes that come off the cell body that receive synaptic input
Cell body (soma)
Contains the nucleus and does “hpuEkepeing” furious like synthesis proteins
Axons
Single process that comes off the cell body. Info carries to other cells.
Sensory (afferent) division
Takes info to the CNS about our body and the outside world
Motor (efferent) division
Carries commands to skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscles and glands as well as other neurons
Somatic
Controls skeletal muscles (voluntary)
Visceral (autonomic)
Controls smooth and cardiac muscles and glands
Sensory (afferent) neurons
Oddballs, don’t have true dendrites, protein receptors
Polar
Having a serration of charge
Nerve cells
Are polarized having charges on the inside of the membrane pulling on the + charges on the outside of the membrane
Sight
Photoreceptors
Smell and taste
Chemoreceptor
Hearing and balance
Mechanorecptor
Nerve cell
Neurons are the computational units of the nervous system that communicate impulses (action potentials) and make decisions
