Nerve and Joint blocks Flashcards
Where do you inject the local anaesthetic in a palmar/plantar digital nerve block?
Near by the nerve in the neurovascular bundle just proximal to the collateral cartilage. The nerve is the most medial part of the neurovascular bundle
What structures to the palmar/plantar nerve block desensitize?
The caudal 1/3 of the foot, the navicular bone/bursa, the pedal bone, a variable amount of sole and the coffin joint.
What are the two approaches to the coffin joint block?
Dorsal (1.5 cm proximal to the coronet and 1.5 cm off the midline) and Lateral (in the notch between palmar P2 and collateral cartilage, angled slightly dorsally)
Where is local anaesthetic injected in an abaxial sesamoid nerve block (ABSNB)?
At the base of the proximal sesamoid bone where you can feel the nerve.
What structures does an abaxial sesamoid nerve block desensitize
From the mid pastern distally. Be aware that in the hind limb dorsal metatarsal nerves may extend along dorsal P1 and provide some ‘feeling’.
