Nerve and Joint blocks Flashcards

1
Q

Where do you inject the local anaesthetic in a palmar/plantar digital nerve block?

Q

What structures to the palmar/plantar nerve block desensitize?

A

The caudal 1/3 of the foot, the navicular bone/bursa, the pedal bone, a variable amount of sole and the coffin joint.

Q

What are the two approaches to the coffin joint block?

A

Dorsal (1.5 cm proximal to the coronet and 1.5 cm off the midline) and Lateral (in the notch between palmar P2 and collateral cartilage, angled slightly dorsally)

Q

What structures does an abaxial sesamoid nerve block desensitize

A

From the mid pastern distally. Be aware that in the hind limb dorsal metatarsal nerves may extend along dorsal P1 and provide some ‘feeling’.
